This stunning group of islands are situated in the Western Indian Ocean, and boast unspoilt beaches, crystal clear water, and an amazing ecology. Lying close to the equator, they enjoy year round sunshine, and, unusually for a long haul destination, the best time to visit is in our summer, making them an ideal honeymoon destination for summer weddings. Popular activities include diving, snorkelling, and deep sea fishing.

I recently visited seven of these islands, and stayed on five of them, getting a real feel for the different atmospheres on the various islands.

Mahe is the hub, and boasts some wonderful new hotels in magnificent beach front settings. It is the busiest of the Islands, home of the capital, Victoria. From Mahe you can get a boat or aircraft transfer to many of the other islands.

One of the closest is Sainte Anne, which is only a seven minute boat transfer from Mahe, and is home to just one hotel; the 5 star Saine Anne Resort and Spa set on a 200 hectare private island, surrounded by unspoilt beaches.

Praslin is the second largest island in the Seychelles. It is home to the world famous Vallee de Mai, which is a UNESCO Heritage Site. The beaches on Praslin are exquisite.

Bird Island is a totally different experience, being a tiny island with a population of thirty five. It is so named as it is home to a colony of over a million Sooty Terns, which along with other birds come onto the island at sunset – which is a remarkable sight (and sound!). The island is also home to several giant tortoises, who amble freely over the island and are always happy to greet visitors.
