Sabor Do Brasil Restaurant
14-16 Ashley Road,
Altrincham WA15 2DW

A reader dropped me an email saying there was a new Brazilian restaurant in Altrincham we should try. So on a Wednesday lunchtime we parked at Sainsbury’s and walked through to Sabor Do Brasil on Ashley Road, which was formerly the Tavern Company Restaurant.

The layout inside the restaurant hasn’t altered; there is a strong wooden emphasis, a long bar at the side and the centre of the room is divided with wooden partition dining booths.

The restaurant was quiet at lunchtime, just two other couples in the place. We were greeted at the door, shown to a booth and offered drinks from a comprehensive list. There was a Brazilian bottled beer on offer so we tried this. It was mildly hoppy and not too strong, a pleasant change and just right for lunchtime.

The food is where the difference lies. At the back of the restaurant there is a help yourself buffet of salads, fish and meat to start and/or accompany the main course with. The buffet is available as an ‘all you can eat’ lunchtime option for just £6.80, which is terrific value.

Then there is the Brazilian special, the Rodizio. This dish is a wide variety of meat and fish including steak, lamb, chicken, king prawns and sausages, cooked over a charcoal grill and then brought to your table on a giant skewer. The skewers carrying each item arrive in a steady stream. You can have as much or as little of every kind of meat. We managed ten visits before we gave in.

For dessert we had a cheesecake between us, struggled with it after the main course and finished with a couple of frothy cappuccinos.

If you are carnivorous this is the place for you.

The lady manager is Brazilian, polite and chatty as are the staff.

The service was friendly and helpful and we enjoyed our early midday visit. The bill came to just £43, which is excellent value for money.

There is a helpful website that is worth visiting if you are considering dining here.

Will we return?

Yes, as a dinner treat.
