This restaurant has been on the ascendancy in Hale for a while. Feedback told us it was good put expensive. So we paid a lunchtime visit to find out for ourselves.
As usual in Hale we parked in the ‘Pay and Display' car park near Safeways. Piccolino is situated nearby on the car park corner of Ashley Road.
The restaurant is cleverly light, has nice green furniture and good decor. There is a nice feel about it.
We were warmly welcomed at the door and guided to our seats at a nice table with a good view of the door.
The wine list is comprehensive and we ordered an Italian Merlot and a jug of iced water. Warm, tasty bread arrived at the same time.
The menu is typically Italian with lots of choice including fish, meat chicken and pasta dishes
For a starter my colleague had a tasty bruschetta. I had homemade tomato soup, creamy and delicious.
For the main course I had baked halibut with clams, whilst my friend had linguini with king prawns. Dishes of vegetables cost extra here so I ordered two side dishes, rosemary potatoes and spinach. It was all perfectly presented and very well cooked.
The pudding menu looked impressive with plenty of choice, but we were already full up to the coffee level so we finished with two nice cappuccinos
The service was friendly and helpful and we enjoyed our lunchtime visit.
The restaurant was now more than half full included quite a lot of ladies who lunch.
The bill was sizable, yet we somehow felt we had got good value from it.
Will we return?
Yes, not a cheap option but well worth a visit.
