We visited the Normanhurst Hotel a couple of years ago and remembered having a nice lunch. The hotel is located on Brooklands Road and has its own car park.
On Remembrance Sunday a group of us went to the cenotaph near St. Margaret’s Church to pay our respects to the fallen. Afterwards we had Sunday lunch together. This is often a busy time for restaurants so we made a reservation earlier in the week.
When we arrived it was not as busy as we had anticipated; however, had we not booked, Sods Law says there would have been no tables available for us. Our coats were taken and we were shown into a comfortable bar area with a large conservatory extension where you can enjoy a drink whilst perusing the ample menu. The extensive wine list is reasonably priced and of good quality, with something there for everyone.
We liked the selection of starters which included home-made soup and chicken liver pate’.
The main course has a great selection of roast joints, the sort that often seem to large to cook at home. There is roast pork and crackling, sirloin of beef and yorkshire pudding and a roast leg of lamb. There is also chicken supreme, poached salmon and a vegetarian choice.
For the cost of an extra pound coin you can partake in a slice of each of all the roasts with all the trimmings. This is called the Normanhurst Special and I could not resist it.
There was also a plentiful selection of freshly cooked vegetables.
For pudding there was a variety of hot and cold fudge cake, chocolate cakes and gateaux. You just need to have enough capacity left after the huge roast dinner.
This was an excellent Sunday lunch and great value for money, costing around £25 per person, including all of our wine and drinks. I believe this is the best Sunday lunch in the district.
Will we return?
Definitely. The roasts were excellent.
