Essence Indian Restaurant
83 Manchester Road, West Timperley,
Altrincham WA14 4RJ
Broadheath was historically a busy, heavy industrial area with steel foundries which employed thousands of workers. Those days are long gone, and the principal local employer is now Altrincham Retail Park.
The main Manchester Road runs right through the middle of the district and is well colonised with a variety of take-aways. At the canal end is the Essence Indian Restaurant. Parking is on the local streets.
This Indian restaurant seems to have been there for ages and it is a good while since I have visited. Recently I have heard good reports, and, as regular readers of this column will know, I need very little encouragement to go for a curry.
A group of four of us dropped in last Wednesday night about 7.30. Several tables were already taken. We were politely greeted and promptly seated.
A pile of poppadoms was the first order, followed promptly by an order for glasses of Indian and European beers to keep us going whist we chose from the menu.
The menu is comprehensive and there is something there for all tastes, whether your preference is for meat, fish or chicken and you may choose how hot or spicy you would like your dish cooked.
We decided to forgo the starters and get straight into the good stuff on the main course menu. Our order was for Chicken Jalfrezi, Korahi Lamb, Chicken Tikka, Shashlik Massalla and Chicken Pasanda. On the side we had Sag Aloo, Pashware and Keema naan breads and pilau rice.
So that we could all enjoy the different dishes the complete order was placed in the middle of the table and we got stuck in. What a good decision this was. We enjoyed sampling all of those diverse flavours.
The restaurant had filled even more by the time we left. This was a pleasant evening with well prepared Indian food and good service. The cost for four of us, including beers, was a very reasonable £66.
Will we return?
Yes, this is a good curry house.
